Modal verbs in Slovak language
Modal verbs are verbs expressing emotional, casual and other
qualities of the action expressed by the infinitive that follows.
Modal verbs are connectedto the infinitive of another verb,
expressing or determinating the part of its meaning given by the category of
mood: therefore they are called modal verbs. There are a large number of
such verbs: môcť(can), mať(ought to), chcieť(want), dať(give), smieť( may),
vedieť (know),potrebovať(need), dokázať(prove), túžiť(desire).
Now we make some sentence with these modal verbs.

Can I help you ?
Mal by si to urobiť.
You ought to do that.
Čo chceš ?
What do you want ?
Daj mi ten sveter.
Give me that sweater.
Smiem si sadnúť ?
May I sit down ?
